Midwifery

Just came back from my first meeting with Micheline, a midwife at the Centre de Naissance / Birthing Centre. What a difference from the ob/gyn! - a 5 minute wait (rather than an hour long one on a comfy sofa, where we chatted with Renaud and Genevieve, two good friends of ours who were there at the same time!) and then an hour long discussion (rather than 5 minutes!) with Micheline and her assistant about our entire histories etc. We even tried to hear the baby's heartbeat, but I guess s/he was being shy today.

Micheline is not sure that she can accept us at the Birthing Centre because of my hyperthyroidism, but she will put forward the case next Wednesday at their general meeting. Our chances are not entirely out the window, as I am being followed by an endocrinologist, and my thyroid has been neutral for a while, but because of the risk during labour, it is not certain. In any case, we will know by Wednesday. At least I will have done all I can to get in!

Wish us luck!

My pants are too small!

Not much new to report today at ten weeks - except that I no longer fit comfortably into ANY of my pants. I finally gave in today and went to buy a pair of maternity jeans - Ahhhhhhhh! Heaven!

Here are two pictures - one of my fat tummy and the other of my new wonderful jeans...

8 weeks ultrasound

Exciting news: We went for our second ultrasound today (8 weeks) - EVERYTHING LOOKS GREAT! The baby is now 2 centimeters in length (about the size of a cherry) and we heard his / her heart beating (very quickly!) We are thrilled! The baby is even bigger than our ob/gyn expected - all is going really well.

My thyroid is still neutral (for the past 6 months) so my endocrinologist is recommending that I come off the PTU - YAY again!

I have a funny taste in my mouth almost all the time and feel queasy 10 out of the 14 hours that I manage to stay awake every day, but aside from that, this pregnancy is going pretty smoothly. Oh yeah, popsicles - must have popsicles! (Don't know why).

The other development is that my pants are beginnning to be a bit tight. Had to stop wearing my tight jeans - sigh. This is probably from bloating though, not so much from the baby. (He / She is ony 2 cm big right...) I can't wait until I can justify going out and getting some maternity jeans as right now I am living in some work pants that used to have some room in the waist (but don't any more!)

Our next ultrasound is April 6th (the baby will be 12 weeks old then). Can't wait to see him/her again!
