Doctor's visit

We're at 15 weeks now!

Just came back from a visit to the ob/gyn - apparently the baby is alive and well and moving around like crazy... can't feel a thing yet though (Don't expect to for another month at least!)

No more nausea, just heartburn & indigestion - and FATIGUE! (Love my bed!) Apparently this is all normal.

No update on the midwife situation - still waiting for the endocrinologist to write a letter of recommendation... nearly a month later!!!

baby belly

Some of you (o.k., that means my mum) have been complaining about the lack of updates recently. I have been lax mainly because a) there isn't much new going on, b) I spend all my extra time sleeping c) what little time & energy I have goes into essentials like - EATING, sleeping, reading every baby book & website I can get my hands on, sleeping, thinking about what to EAT and oh yeah, sleeping. :)

To keep all of you happy, here are some new belly pictures - getting harder to hide it!

Many thanks to Penny for the fabulous new maternity clothes (some modelled here).

12 week sonogram

WOW! ... I don't even know where to begin for this one except to say that EVERYTHING IS WONDERFUL! We did the twelve week sonogram (echogram? ultrasound?) this morning and we got to see our little bear for the third time: EVERYTHING IS GREAT! We saw the baby's head, heart, spine, arms & legs - we even saw some fingers as (s)he decided to wave and stretch a bit. (s)he didn't much like getting shaken by the ob/gyn (who wanted the baby to turn around so that we could check different parts) and (s)he kept moving around and turning this way and that to get settled in.

It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I admit that I had tears streaming down my face the whole time and couldn't help sobbing in Gilbert's arms when it was over. We are so happy and now, having made it this far we can finally relax a bit as the risk of losing this one is minimal now.

For those of you who were wondering about the test for Down's, after the doctor analysed the scan the results came out that we have a 1/4070 chance (much, much lower than the average of 1/400) of that being a problem, so we decided not to go for any other invasive tests.

Oh yeah, and we did find out the sex... it is a 95% chance of being a...

...

well, I think I should make you guess don't you?
(If you really want to know, ask and we will tell you.)

heheheheh

midwives and thyroids...

Just spoke to Micheline (hopefully my mid-wife-to-be), and the news is...
... no news. They need more information from my endocrinologist before deciding if they can accept me. (I.e. they need a written letter from her confirming that it is, indeed, safe for me to be followed by a midwife and not an ob/gyn, that I am euthyroid, details of care during pregnancy, labour, after birth etc. etc.) Now the race begins to try to track down my endocrinologist who, like most specialists, is extremely hard to get hold of / to see.

So for the moment: still lots of hope, still need a vast wealth of persistence & patience as I go in to do futher battle with the medical establishment...

(More news tomorrow!!!)
