Baby shower & diapers

I should have updated this a while ago, but I have been struck by a truckload of sleepy most afternoons so here is a belated version of what has been going on in the land of baby belly:

1. My fabulous friends from CDM held a baby shower for me at my friend Cara's house last Sunday. It was good to see everyone again and, of course to be spoiled with all the attention and great baby gifts (onesies, homemade sweaters, booties etc.) Everyone is too kind. Need to take some pictures of the gifts - will post them asap.

2. We attended a cloth-diapering workshop on Wednesday night and I think that we are sold on the idea for economic, health, and of course, environmental reasons.

The new cloth diapering systems make it just as easy to use them as disposables, except with a bit of extra laundry thrown in and (for all the above mentioned reasons) it seems to be worth it. Besides, the designs are pretty cool!

I had told Gilbert that we wouldn't do it if he wasn't on-board (I don't want to end up being the only one to change diapers!) but he agreed that it isn't more complicated than disposables, so we are going ahead with it. We agreed to an 80% / 20% approach: 80% washing 20% disposable when we are:
1. Coping with life as new parents in the first weeks
2. Travelling
3. Handing the little guy over to those generous folk who will be watching him for us and are uncomfortable with the system.

Like many of our friends who have become new parents in the past few years, I fully imagine that our conversations will revolve around poo - quantity, quality, smell etc. I understand that this subject doesn't hold the same fascination for everyone as it will for us so I give you all full permission to tell us that we are full of sh*t and to be quiet! ;)

Lots of love to you all!

Last ultrasound!

Hi all,

Just a quick update - yesterday we had our last ultrasound and saw the small bear at 34 weeks. Great news: his head is down (where it is supposed to be) and his back is on the left side which is also, apparently, optimal. All fingers, toes, organs etc are the right number shape and size - he is normal to slightly above normal in size & weight and will probably weigh about 7-7.5 pounds at delivery! Ah technology...

Of course we got the requisite DVD, photos and 3D imaging that comes with ultrasound these days, although at this stage he is a bit too big to get clear pictures. The one posted here is the best of the bunch.

All in all a successful visit - we are thrilled that he is healthy and that all is well. Now the countdown to the big day +/- 6 weeks to go!

Thanks for keeping up with us!

P.
